ANN ARBOR, MI — A new marijuana dispensary is preparing to open in Ann Arbor in a prime location where much of the action around Hash Bash takes place each year.
The city’s Planning Commission voted Tuesday, April 2, to grant a zoning permit allowing a new cannabis retailer called Meds Cafe to set up shop in the former Green Planet dispensary location.
The house at 700 Tappan St. is right off Monroe Street next to where thousands of cannabis enthusiasts mingle and celebrate on the first Saturday in April every year during the Monroe Street Fair, which coincides with the Hash Bash marijuana rally on the nearby University of Michigan Diag.

Hash Bash organizer Jamie Lowell, chief operating officer for the Meds Cafe chain of dispensaries, said he had hoped the dispensary would be approved to open in time for this year’s Hash Bash taking place Saturday, April 6, but going through the bureaucratic process has taken longer and there are still final hoops to jump through at the state level.
Now having cleared at least the city permitting hurdle, he expects to open in about three weeks or so.
Meds Cafe also has locations in Alpena, Cheboygan, Lowell, Manistee, Rogers City and another opening soon in Gaylord, according to MedsCafe.com.
