To choose the most affordable CBD oils, the Forbes Health editorial team analyzed data on over 150 CBD oil products that cost no more than $50 and are:
- Made from plants grown in the U.S.
- Have a certificate of analysis (COA) confirming the absence of pesticides, heavy metals and molds
- Are third-party tested by ISO 17025-compliant laboratories
We then ranked CBD oils and tinctures based on the following criteria:
Value. To keep comparisons fair, we use the manufacturer price of a single serving of a CBD product for all products considered, ranking them from most affordable to most expensive. We also distinguish between full-spectrum, broad-spectrum and CBD isolate products, as prices for these formulations can vary and may deliver unique results. Subscription model savings, bundled package options and the availability of free shipping are considered as well in assessing a product’s overall value.
Potency. We also assess the CBD potency of a single serving of a CBD product for all products considered, ranking them from strongest to weakest. For many consumers, this metric is an important part of budget-friendliness, as one serving of a stronger CBD product might provide more effective and longer-lasting results than one serving of a weaker CBD product. At the same time, this measurement helps readers new to CBD find a safe starting point on the lower end of the potency spectrum.
Flavor and scent options. We award more points to edible CBD products that are available in a greater flavor variety and to topical CBD products that are available in a greater scent variety. This component of our methodology allows us to present consumers with a variety of choices regarding their personal flavor and scent preferences.
Dietary and lifestyle friendliness. We award more points to CBD products that feature all-natural ingredients, use certified organic ingredients and are non-GMO, gluten-free and vegan-friendly. Each of these elements is scored separately.
