LINCOLN, Neb. (KCAU) — Nebraskans for Medical Marijuana says their petition to legalize and regulate medical marijuana in the state needs 30,000 more signatures in 27 days.
By July 3, the group needs to submit around 87,000 valid signatures to the Nebraska Secretary of State’s office. The campaign says they’ve collected 65,000 signatures so far, but another 30,000 would exceed the amount needed for a petition drive, in case any are rejected.
Signatures must come from at least 7 percent of registered voters in Nebraska, along with 5 percent of voters in 38 of the 93 counties. Last month, the group surpassed the minimum required signatures in at least 38 counties.
Nebraskans for Medical Marijuana says they support the legalization of medical marijuana because it can “provide relief to Nebraskans who are suffering,” according to their website.
