MORGANTOWN, Ky. – The city of Morgantown is one of the latest in South Central Kentucky to discuss the medical cannabis business.
The city addressed their options on allowing medical cannabis during Thursday’s city council meeting.
Mayor Billy Phelps says the citizens have the option to put this issue on the ballot come November.
City council members voted to wait for planning & zoning to come up with a plan before approving it fully, but they will support the decision if it passes.
Mayor Phelps says he believes this is great news for residents.
“It gives local residents the opportunity to not have to travel to Bowling Green or other areas, wherever that’s at… should they fall under the category of the requirements to be able to get medical cannabis,” he says.
Phelps also says a common misconception is that you will see people on the streets smoking marijuana, which is not the case. There will only be chewable or edible variants.
He also says you will have to get a prescription in order to use it as well.
