  1. He mentions stress associated w high intensity workouts. I always thought the show biggest loser was on the wrong track having obese people use extreme forms of exercise to lose weight then expect to keep up the pace of exercise when done the program.

Remember the trainer Bob Harper? He recently has been in commercials for a drug he’s taking after suffering heart attack.

Surely there could have been more to his heart attack than extreme exercise but it goes to show that it’s not safe for everyone including people that appear to be in excellent shape.

  2. ### Key Takeaways from "Harvard Brain Expert: The #1 Thing For Overall Health, Vitality & Longevity | Dr. Chris Palmer"

    #### Mitochondrial Health Optimization

    1. *Avoid Mitochondrial Toxins:* Reduce or eliminate substances like excessive alcohol, marijuana, and ultra-processed foods to support metabolic health.

    2. *Adopt Lifestyle Interventions:* Focus on diet, exercise, sleep, substance use management, stress reduction, and positive relationships.

    3. *Exercise Regularly:* Engage in strength training and Zone 2 cardio to enhance mitochondrial function and overall well-being. Even small physical activities can significantly lower risks of mortality, cardiovascular disease, and cancer.

    #### Mental Health Crisis and Mitochondrial Dysfunction

    1. *Rising Mental Disorders:* Rates of autism, ADHD, overdose deaths, bipolar disorder, and eating disorders are increasing worldwide.

    2. *Ineffective Treatments:* Current mental health treatments, including antidepressants and therapy, are insufficient in addressing the growing rates of mental illnesses.

    3. *Impact of Substances:* Alcohol and marijuana are mitochondrial toxins that harm brain function and contribute to the mental health epidemic. Chronic marijuana use is linked to brain shrinkage and a higher risk of psychiatric disorders.

    4. *Brain Energy Theory:* This theory shows promise in mitigating the effects of heavy marijuana usage through mitochondrial repair.

    #### GLP-1 Receptor Agonists for Mental Health Improvement

    1. *Emerging Treatments:* GLP-1 receptor agonists like Wegovy and Ozempic show potential in improving mental health, particularly in individuals with severe obesity or overweight.

    2. *Clinical Trials:* Ongoing studies are exploring these agonists for treating substance use disorders and severe mental illnesses, such as bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.

    3. *Mitochondrial Function:* The impact on mitochondrial function and brain energy metabolism may explain their effects on various health conditions.

    4. *Complementary Approach:* GLP-1 receptor agonists should be combined with lifestyle changes, including resistance training and healthy eating.

    #### Diet and Mental Health

    1. *Diet's Role:* Diet affects brain function and mental health, but it is often overlooked in mental health treatment.

    2. *Inflammation and Brain Health:* Inflammatory biomarkers from food can cause brain malfunction and psychiatric symptoms.

    3. *Individual Needs:* Dietary needs vary based on age, health conditions, and genetics. Mental health and metabolic biomarkers can guide dietary appropriateness.

    #### Assisted Suicide for Mental Illness

    1. *Rising Trend:* Young individuals are increasingly seeking state-assisted suicide due to severe mental health issues and lack of improvement.

    2. *Growing Acceptance:* Assisted dying for mental illness is gaining acceptance in countries like the Netherlands, the UK, and Canada.

    3. *Treatment Alternatives:* New treatments such as ketogenic diets, transcranial magnetic stimulation, and psychedelics offer hope for severe mental illness and suicidal ideation.

    #### Dr. Chris Palmer's Advocacy for Mental Health

    1. *Hope and Advocacy:* Dr. Palmer emphasizes maintaining hope and challenging societal norms that hinder mental health outcomes.

    2. *"Brain Energy" Book:* His book provides accessible information on mental health care, available in multiple languages.

  3. If you talk about drugs… YOU should fokus on PESTICIDES, FUNGECIDES, HERBECIDES, predominantly… They are almost imposible to avoid… THEY are the PRIMARY REASON for all the distruction of the HUMAN MICROBIOME… and therefore declining MENTAL HEALTH… everything else, are SECONDARY… just check it out for your SELF😢😢😢

  4. I don't get why humans are the only animal on the planet ever in history who can't have a general diet.

I do believe we have a diet that works for everyone, 100%, but maybe it changes if you mess it up not following since you are a child.

  5. alcohol and marijuania suppress brain function, damage mitochondrial what do benzodiazepines, antipsychotics, antidepressants due to brain and mitochondrial function?

  6. I wish all psychiatrists were as compassionate and hopeful as this one. And also believed in their patients ability to recover from their illness. The euthanasia laws as currently written are very disturbing. These laws, along with many recent events truly seem to be indicating a trend in "ridding" society of those who are no longer considered productive or have value. I hope I am wrong.

  7. It’s all bout the 💰 money.. 😔
Lobbyist … company board members… all pushing … chemicals, chemicals, chemicals, chemicals … the welfare system … pharmaceutical companies… why do you at 65need pills? 💸

  8. Let's face the reality that there's no way we're going to
Change the way Big Food operates. All we have is free will to choose to not eat ultra processed garbage. Eat real food most of the time. It counts

  9. I highly appreciate this podcast….However, we need to emphasize that there is the Ketogenic and there is the HEALTHY Ketogenic Diet….We need to make sure we follow the HEALTHY Ketogenic Our choice makes a big difference!

  10. So he opens up the cannabis discussion with far right wing views on the criminal justice system (which is not an area he should be commenting on period), and false statements about what gets one high with the substance (no, more THC and less CBD is not optimal for buzz-that's a common myth, mistakenly perpetuated by hippies). This does not make me think he knows or cares what he is talking about. I, then, look up the studies, and I can't find good info to back up his statements. Most of the work looks like it has been conducted on smoking, not simply ingesting THC and CBD. The fact is that scientists know very little about cannabis because they know very little about the aspect of the body it functions on (the endocannabinoid system). Studies have also not taken into account potential interactions between cell types and organs, including their compensatory mechanism, important given the high promiscuity of cannabinoids in terms of its actions on different molecular targets. We also don't know how it deals with long term exposure.

  11. The information given here by this guest is very valuable and should be used. I have done over 35 yrs of research and can effectively assess the information in a podcast to know the ones that are helpful in the ability to improve one's health.

  12. As psychotherapist and nutritionist/ health counselor—have read Dr Palmer’s book— excellent! I practice therapy according to this protocol and of course lead my life as such! Get pushback but I keep going re metabolic approach! Thank you so much for this excellent podcast!!

  13. While GLP-1 agonists likely result in muscle mass wasting, the more serious effect is GLP-1 gastroparesis. GLP-1 agonists slow transit time, and if used chronically, the result can be permanent loss of peristalsis – movement of food through the intestines. There are numerous lawsuits regarding this issue. Just like mRNA, GLP-1 is an experiment that is resulting in tragic outcomes.

  14. So many food additives have been banned around the world, and are still in use in American food. Explain how this is allowed. So many artificial colours, flavours, preservatives and a whole heap of other additives that shouldn't be consumed at all.

  15. PESTICIDES…. HERBICIDES…. FUNGICIDES….. MILLIONS OF TONS OF THAT BLOODY STUFF IS DUMPED ON OUR FOOD EVERY WEEK…….And you wonder why our human race is going mental?

  16. You should be teaching your patients what to eat, and not tole out those crap pills that the drug companies are selling you. They are not helping anyone. It's the food companies that are causing the problems, and the chemical companies and you are not helping. Your patients should be eating good fresh meat and fish. The only sort of things that can be almost untouched my the chemical companies.

  17. Thank you both for this thoughtful discussion and your persistence in getting the information to the public. It is exciting that we have learned so much more about our metabolism and the sad contribution of fast food and other life-style factors to physical and mental problems. Much gratitude that you also spread hope . As a retired former psychiatrist I fully agree with your opinion. ❤
