Waco, Tx (FOX 44) – Devonte Trevon McClennon was sentenced to ten years in federal prison on Wednesday. This comes after he agreed to a plea deal in a case where over a ton of marijuana was brought into Central Texas.
McClennon agreed to the plea deal, and was formally sentenced in federal court in Waco. Court papers stated that beginning in about January 2019 until he was indicted, McClennon and others conspired to bring mass quantities of the weed to the area.
Court papers said the investigation started when Los Angeles Police started investigating a murder which was determined to have occurred after he met with McClennon and others to conduct a large marijuana transaction. Court papers stated that before the murder, McClennon and others helped transport marijuana to a location to be packaged for later transport to Texas.
The paperwork stated that at the time of the murder, McClennon was in Texas, then later went back to California to finish packing and transporting the marijuana. A further investigation revealed that since 2019, McClennon and others had acquired and distributed more than 1,000 kilos of marijuana.
In the plea deal, McClennon agreed to waive right to a jury trial and the right to any appeal or to challenge his sentence.
McClennon has remained in custody since his arrest. No information was released regarding where he would serve his sentence. The ten-year sentence was the minimum mandatory for the case. He could have faced up to life in prison.
