  1. This must have been a strike day seeing the garbage as such on the middle of the road. Wouldn't say Johannesburg is that dangerous, my experience though.

  2. When there is. Strike in South Africa, rubbish is thrown on the street intentionally to distract traffic and as sign of frustration, tires are burned, the rubbish looks like it was dumped intentionally. Johannesburg CBD is not safe but not too dangerous. But if your looking trouble you will definitely get it. Unfortunately every city in the world has its dark side. Johannesburg CBD is full of foreign street vendors and hustlers, petty thugs and generally poor people trying to make a living in South Africa. Business and middle class people moved out to the surrounding areas. Some of the shops are owned by Portuguese, Indians and so forth. So you will get whatever u want in the CBD but it wonā€™t be good.

  3. Zack ,truth be told that place u were walking at( jhb) was safe and cleaner before people from the north of tropic of Capricorn arrived there.NB ,IF I MAY ASK WHY PEOPLE FROM THE NORTH ,WEST, EAST AFRICA ARE SO DESTRUCTIVE, WHEREVER U GO U JUST DESTROY EVERY THING? U COMPLAIN THAT PEOPLE HATE U, BUT U DONT HAVE RESPECT AS (AFRICANS) FROM THE NORTH, IS THERE NO UBUNTU IN YOUR CULTURES (COUNTRIES)????????

  4. Sandton is not dangerous, Johannesburg is very dangerous and many illegally immigrants stay there. Its unsafe daylight and night that sight.

  5. You said it yourself. Status. They feel it brings them social capital. I never subscribed to that way of thinking. I used to work in downtown Dallas, Texas. There is an area called Uptown which is like a few minutes from downtown. This place has expensive apartments and restaurants and was a favorite of folks we called "wanna be millionaires" most of whom probably were earning $60,000 or so which is not enough but would rather struggle to say they live there. Fake it until you make it is a real disease especially in capitalistic societies.

  6. Not only middle class almost everyone who is not familiar with that place doesn't want to end up there. Myself included…. once am there i wanna get out of that place as soon as i can

  7. I grew up in Johannesburg, I have never seen this much filth on the streets, even in the dirtiest part of the city. Garbage collectors must have been on strike or something. Also, if you use common sense, try not to be all flashy, walk with confidence and try to blend in with the locals in Johannesburg CBD, you will be fine. There are thousands of people who walk those streets daily and live in the area and nothing happens to them. Often, people who have limited knowledge of that place or have never set foot the cbd area have high opinions about itšŸ˜‚.

  8. Hey Zack! I love your shows bruv! Hereā€™s what I know: Sandton City which includes Sandton CBD, itā€™s also a suburbia, divided into these 15 suburbs: Sandown; Sandton CBD; Hurlingham; Bryanston; Hyde Park; Morningside; Fourways; Rivonia; Craighall Park; Inanda; Woodmead; Benmore Gardens; Sunninghill; Paulshof and Lonehill. One other factor, the Johannesburg Stock Exchange is in Sandton. So, itā€™s an expensive city. Then this happened: Over the last 30 yrs, South Africa has produced a sizeable number of ā€œBlackā€ middle-class, who now have produced second generational suburban ā€œBlacksā€ in the process of entering the third gen suburban ā€œBlacksā€.

So, as much as Sandton has its own status, to some itā€™s the City and to others itā€™s just a home – in a rich part of the land.

By the way: Waterfall Precinct is trying to compete with Sandton. Which makes the Province of Gauteng, the most economically competitive Province in South A.

Johannesburg CBD has its own story. A glory city of its past. Now harbouring all sorts and kind of people who want to make it in the ā€œCity of Goldā€. Yet have different means to grab piece of the pie.

I guess you can compare Johannesburg to London, New York, Paris, not in value but context. Thus, Sandton City has been claimed to be the richest square mile in the continent.

Thanks for the great channel. Telling African stories. Salute šŸ«”

  9. By all means, why canĀ“t you opt for another YouTube title than regurgating the same old racist CNN/BBC/France24 title about South Africa/Johannesburg? I thought you were a pan africanist? Guess itĀ“s click baiting on the back of South Africa.

Well what you may not know or donĀ“t care, is that not only africans, but the entire world sees this and sees it as the shit hole Africa (as Mr Trump famously slurred). If you thought you are just sh*** on South Africa for views and money, sorry, you are wrong.

And lastly, these same anti-South African will never present their own country, this way in their titles and content, but have the audicity to do so while not a single South African ever travels and shit on other bros or sis country.

I donĀ“t mind constructive criticism in a nuanced manner, but this must stop. Big up to brothers like Tayo Aina of Nigeria who does an excellent job if you want to check how itĀ“s done in an ethical, pan africanist way.
