Group says they will challenge abortion, marijuana amendments if they are approved for November ballot

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — A conservative group says it will fight two of the proposed amendments if they are approved to be on the ballot this November.

The group called the Family Council Action Committee announced in a news release on Friday plans to support and coordinate legal challenges against the Arkansas Abortion Amendment of 2024 and the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Amendment of 2024 if either is approved for the November ballot.

Jerry Cox, the group’s executive director, said both amendments are flawed and should not be allowed to have a vote.

“If either of these amendments is certified for the November ballot, our organization will mount a legal challenge to have it removed from the ballot, or we will assist other organizations who step forward to challenge these measures in court,” Cox said in a statement.

He said the group will announce details regarding the legal challenges once the Secretary of State’s Office certifies the ballot measures.

The Arkansas Secretary of State’s office has until August 22 to determine which measures qualify for the ballot in November.
