The arrest of Troy Scott Holden stemmed from a deputy observing him exiting Casey’s General Store in Sioux Center and having difficulty maintaining his balance, according to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office.

Holden then drove out of the parking lot, making a wide turn onto Highway 75, and the deputy activated his vehicle’s emergency lights and stopped Holden’s 2021 Ford F-150 pickup.

He had bloodshot/watery eyes, impaired balance, slurred speech and the odor of an alcoholic beverage.

Holden failed the first field sobriety test and refused to take the second, admitting he was “drunk,” according to the incident report.

The third test was halted as Holden posed a risk to himself due to his impaired balance. A preliminary breath test indicated a blood alcohol concentration of .308.

An empty holster was found in the rear door during a search of the vehicle,.

When questioned, Holden said there was a firearm behind the driver’s seat.

A small black container containing hash marijuana, multiple THC vaping devices and multiple items of drug paraphernalia also were found in the vehicle.
