If I were able to manufacture a "complete and balanced" kibble for humans and could manage to get a few doctors to promote it, I wonder if those vets who suggest a kibble diet for life would eat it and nothing else?
Too many people think the terms "allergy" and "intolerance" are interchangeable.
When I first got my dog, he'd been raised on a kibble diet. I began introducing some raw ingredients, and it appeared that raw organic chicken didn't agree with him. Turns out it wasn't an allergy or even an intolerance because he's been on a fully raw diet for a while, and chicken doesn't worry him at all.
The best I can work out is that at first his gut flora must have comprised mainly bacteria that feed on carbohydrates and couldn't assist in the digestion of a mostly protein based diet.
My vet advised a kibble diet at first, but it turns out she only suggested it because feeding an unbalanced raw diet is just as bad if the dog isn't getting all the nutrients they require. I agree with that, but now that my vet has seen how healthy my dog is, she said I must be on the right track and I should continue feeding raw because I understand what items to offer in the correct amount/ratio.
