The majority of illegal pot sales are made by those at the bottom of the economic scale for the purpose of making ends meet. As great as the benefits of legalization are, it's worth noting that legalization takes one of the few sources of income out of the hands of the poor and gives it to business.

  2. We need to be locked into an alcohol model, before this guy already starts rolling back our new rights, again….

    That is, we need to be locked into a microbrew style model. Let's keep marlboro out.

    And what the fuck is he talking about, "black market"….. you can have your friends pot, just like your friend's beer, it's LEGAL there.

  3. This guest is out of touch, even if he knows a few factoids that Sam doesn't. Sam is quick to call out soft journalism in the mainstream news and needs to hald himself to the standard that he holds other journalists to.

Mark Kleiman is (mostly) right, the sensible solution lies somewhere between beatleapostle's mistaking of prohibitions with regulations and lack of respect for marijuana's (relatively minor) harms, and the mindless proselytizing of michael hall's  inane prohibitionist statement below. There's a happy middle here, and nobody will get to the best solution by screaming "marijuana's perfect" or "marijuana's evil" with their ears plugged and their eyes shut.
