Can you use hemp wood as the wood braces in the house? That would be cool. I truly enjoy how some people want to build greener with lasting, green materials.
Steel posts are exposed to the hempcrete what is very alkaline … as the vapor comes and leaves it can cause corrosion in long term, therefore I'd add an extra layer on the steel like bitumen sheet what is not nice but effective
How does this handle wet sites, storms, just moisture generally? Are there mold issues in certain situations? The lime should help, but the hemp worries me.
An inspiring book with lots of ideas for a variety of garden buildings The instructions are detailed and clear with plenty of photos. As a beginner https://www.youtube.com/post/Ugkxlg1H4xyrEBR03VoimQHdPx6Ebmzrr0nO I was looking for a manual that would walk me through the basics with detailed instructions and this book does just that. The book caters to both the beginner and more experienced DIY enthusiast with builds varying in complexity, from straightforward projects such as the one we've completed, to more ambitious builds. Absolutely on trend, with instructions on how to install solar panels, green roofs and sweet chestnut shakes – It's given me lots of ideas for future projects!
Matt, I love the fact that you show all these different new building techniques but I'm curious what is the cost relationship between them? Also, how do you find contractors for some of these? I helped some friends build a rammed Earth wall and it was extremely labor-intensive. Even getting the materials off his own land the construction costs were still high due to labor. I'm seventy years old and have been in construction my entire life. I thought I knew about everything there was about construction products until I found your channel. Seems as though I'm always finding something new that you have going on. I'm now retired and we are planning on moving to Arizona to build a house I am kind of interested in some of the ideas that you have shown but I have no idea how to find out more information about them or the cost benefits of using one over the other.
One problem you did not address is what to do about the biologicals that eat the hemp. For this reason, and several others, I think hard plastic chopped to about 1/16th inch would be better. Of course, there is always horse hair.
Insightful information explaining this product with such diverse applications and is sourced to endless regeneration with out having to harvest trees to produce material . Ultimate renewable building material with twice the effective negative carbon print being able to filter and sequester co2………great episode .
Environmental damage from taking out old growth forest from any country is bad so not actually seeing this as an option, but hemp fiber is a beautiful option for many uses.
Can wood shavings be a subistitute for hemp ?

How do you screw into it?
all the stoners trying to light your house on fire to get high…
If labor were free, or if the homeowner had unlimited money, would be the only reason to use this over rockwool or spray foam.

I absolutely support this. I'm sure this would make great and cheap sound insulation for apartments!
How sound proof?
My question is how do these materials perform over a long period of time, say 50-60 years?

The relationship of industrial hemp to marijuana is about as close as wheat would be to oats. Same family but completely different products.
Both hemp and marijuana are strains of cannabis.
I love how the host is such a square lol. Hemp is marijuana. It's just the stuff you sell to parents like stems that dont get you high lol

Don't associated pot with hemp.its already got a stigma it doesn't deserve
How many tons of hempcrete were used for that build?
