HENDERSON, Ky (WEHT) – Madisonville Police seize over a pound of suspected marijuana during a traffic stop and took an Indianapolis man into custody.
According to an affidavit, police pulled over a 2010 Honda Civic just before noon on Thursday after it allegedly slowed down quickly, causing traffic to back up.
Police were allegedly advised that the vehicle didn’t have registration on it.
Officers made contact with Justin Dawson, 19, plus a passenger, and officers said they could smell marijuana.
After the passenger reportedly opened the glove box to retrieve paperwork, officers say they could see drug paraphernalia.
During a search, officers allegedly found a red backpack in the trunk. The backpack allegedly contained 1.1 pounds of suspected marijuana, several baggies and a rolling tray. A large amount of U.S. currency was also reportedly found inside the vehicle.
Booking records state Dawson was released from the Hopkins County Jail on Thursday at 5:24 p.m.
