Kanibi is a popular CBD brand for flavored CBD oils and more. However, its certificates of analysis lack contaminant results, making us reluctant to recommend the company.

Cannabidiol (CBD) continues to grow in popularity as a natural remedy for a number of ailments. Many people use CBD to help deal with anxiety, pain, and trouble sleeping, among other things, like overall well-being.

There are lots of brands to choose from, but it can be hard to decide on the best option. Here, we review Kanibi, a brand that sells everything from topicals to oils, gummies, and softgels.

Kanibi CBD is a relatively new CBD brand. It launched in 2019.

According to its website, Kanibi sources organic hemp from a local farm. The company makes its products in Eugene, Oregon.

Kanibi offers a limited range of full-spectrum CBD products. Customers predominantly rate them highly.

Kanibi dedicates a large portion of its website to consumer education. The brand provides a number of articles on how to choose products, how to use them, and even how to read COA lab reports.

Kanibi does not have a Better Business Bureau (BBB) accreditation or BBB rating.

Notably, in 2021, Kanibi received a Proposition 65 Notice of Violation from Environmental Health Advocates Inc., an organization in California acting in the interest of the public.

Kanibi received this letter for not displaying a clear warning about the exposures to THC in Kanibi Full Spectrum CBD Oil. California’s Proposition 65 requires a notice for the potentially harmful effects of tetrahydrocannabinol, aka THC.

Kanibi has not received an FDA warning letter. These are letters the FDA sends out to CBD brands that are violating the FDA’s rules related to CBD.

Hemp growth and processing

Kanibi’s website claims that quality and transparency sit at the top of the brand’s priorities. It sources Oregon-grown hemp for its CBD oils, though the farms are not named.

Kanibi uses carbon dioxide (CO2) extraction to extract CBD from its hemp. The cannabis industry views CO2 extraction as a relatively clean method. This is because it doesn’t rely on chemicals or solvents that may be left behind in the final product.

According to the Proposition 65 Notice of Violation, Kanibi products are manufactured at Lifted Performance LLC. Kanibi’s website claims its manufacturing facilities comply with the FDA’s current good manufacturing practices (CGMPs).

This does not mean the facilities have FDA certification. Rather, it claims to adhere to the FDA’s best practices.

Testing and certificates of analysis (COAs)

Kanibi says all of its products come “double laboratory tested.” It features third-party COAs from Green Leaf Lab, an ISO 17025 accredited lab.

COAs are available on Kanibi’s website. However, they’re not as comprehensive as some other CBD brands’ COAs.

While they do show the potency and cannabinoid profile for each product, Kanibi’s COAs are missing testing results for contaminants and heavy metals. It’s important to test CBD products for contaminants like mold and pesticides, as well as for heavy metals that could be found in the soil that the cannabis is grown in.

We recommend purchasing from a brand that provides this information for each product it sells.

Kanibi offers all full-spectrum products. You can purchase:

  • a topical gel
  • gummies
  • softgels
  • oils
  • a cooling and warming cream

Kanibi’s products tend to be on the pricey side, but there are ample opportunities to save. Kanibi offers 25% off your first order if you add your name and email to the promo.

If you want a monthly delivery of your CBD product, you can subscribe and save 10%.

There are military, veterans, and search and rescue discounts available if you email your proof of eligibility to customer support.

Kanibi ships domestically and to select international countries. There’s free shipping on all domestic orders.

The Kanibi website contains a list of banned countries it does not ship to.

Kanibi offers a 100% money-back guarantee for domestic purchases. You can even return opened products.

Kanibi does not offer returns or refunds on international orders.

While Kanibi’s COAs are not comprehensive, there are many other CBD brands that do have complete COAs. Some brands to consider include:

  • Joy Organics: Joy Organics sells CBD gummies, oils, topicals, and capsules made with your choice of isolate, broad-spectrum, or full-spectrum CBD. Many of its products are USDA Certified Organic. Read our full review of Joy Organics.
  • Lazarus Naturals: Lazarus Naturals is known for offering affordable CBD products. Its price per milligram (mg) of CBD is substantially lower than other brands. You can purchase oils, capsules, and topicals in a variety of potencies. Read our full review of Lazarus Naturals.
  • CBDistillery: CBDistillery sells a range of products, including strong CBD oils that offer up to 5,000 mg of CBD per 1-milliliter (mL) bottle. Read our full review of CBDistillery.

When it comes to choosing a CBD product, everyone has unique needs. Be sure to consider what you need before you buy a CBD product.

First and foremost, look for a CBD brand that tests its products for purity and potency through an accredited third-party lab.

Once you’ve settled on a brand, consider what spectrum of CBD you want. If you want the full benefits of the entourage effect, then a full-spectrum CBD product may be best for you.

Those who want to avoid THC may be best off with a CBD isolate product.

Next, you might want to consider what method of delivery you want. For example, if you want something fast-acting, a CBD oil may be the best option.

If you do not like the taste of CBD oil, then gummies or capsules may be the best for you.

If you’re new to CBD, start slow and begin with a low dose. For example, you can start with a 10-mg dose per day and see how you feel.

If you want to increase the dose, increase by 5 mg every 5 days.

Some products come with different ingestion instructions and can take different lengths of time to take effect.

For example, sublingual oils may start to work within 15 minutes, while edibles can take an hour or longer before you feel the effects.

A 2017 review of clinical studies and animal studies found that CBD is generally safe. But you may experience side effects like:

  • changes in appetite
  • changes in weight
  • diarrhea
  • fatigue

Further, over-the-counter CBD products sometimes lack proper testing, which means they can be contaminated with less-than-desirable things like pesticides, heavy metals, or mold.

That’s why it’s important to read a product’s COA.

Talk with a qualified healthcare professional, like a doctor or pharmacist, before you try any CBD products. CBD may also interact with certain medications.

The FDA advises against the consumption of CBD when pregnant or breastfeeding.

Kanibi doesn’t offer comprehensive COAs for its products. We recommend shopping from a company that does provide comprehensive COAs complete with contaminant testing.

There are many good CBD brands, such as Lazarus Naturals, CBDistillery, and Joy Organics.

Kanibi offers full-spectrum CBD products in various flavors and potencies. While its products are generally well liked, its COAs are lacking.

If you’re considering trying CBD, be sure to talk with a healthcare professional first.

Is CBD legal? The 2018 Farm Bill removed hemp from the legal definition of marijuana in the Controlled Substances Act. This made some hemp-derived CBD products with less than 0.3% THC legal at the federal level. However, CBD products containing more than 0.3% THC still fall under the legal definition of marijuana, making them illegal at the federal level. Some states have legalized CBD, so be sure to check state laws, especially when traveling. Also, keep in mind that the FDA has not approved nonprescription CBD products, and some products may be inaccurately labeled.
