You can eat Vegan and gain muscle, but it requires a lot of strategy and planning.
The average person they are gonna have their Test levels tank and be deficient in quite a few areas compared to a standard diet. And that’s the simple truth.
Alex just comes off as someone who buys into anything he tries which is cool and takes you far but it gets murky when putting out actual information.
😂 Was SOS vegan for 5 days in 2020 and it turned both me and my housemate into the most horrible people – we’re literally screaming at each other all week eating shit loads and never feeling satiated
Did vegan for 9 months 2020 – craved meat all day long, smell of bbq in summer killed me, used to dream of eating beef burgers and watched slaughterhouse footage to stop the temptation, eventually gave in 09/20 🐄
WE CRAVE WHAT WE NEED Salt/fat/sugar/protein/nutrients
All cause mortality studies show lower salt intake increase risk of death the opposite decreases
Stable isotopes measuring nitrogen from ancient hunter gatherer fossils show we ate the most protein and were top of the food chain
Carbs aren’t bad for us like the carnivores make out only people that have broken metabolisms which is 88% of Americans
What ALL parties agree on are these toxic seed oils that are the root cause of most of our disease and metabolic problems
In terms of hunter gathers there’s like 200 left across the world most of them eat meat, there is one that lives exclusively on sweet potato and are wonderfully healthy so it can be done but may be missing certain nutrients
Also people look at the randle cycle which is basically if you’re metabolically broken and you eat carbs and fats together you confuse your body and it stores it if you’re metabolically unhealthy you should never combine the two so 88% of people in America should not eat carbs and fats together until they are metabolically healthy
And sugar isn’t bad for you
The YouTube channel Analyse and Optimise is really good aswell as his twitter citing all this with studies etc
Ray peat was also pretty good
Most “diet” influencers go: SAD>Vegan>Carnivore>Animal Based/Ray Peat
Alex has accepted the sCiEnCe covid vaxx narrative. The same people still pushing that ans saying its healthy to take the shot are the ones pushing a plant based diet that's harder to digest, has less bioavailability and less food options for a complete amino acid profile.
yeah sorry but what you said about biomarkers and "the research" saying that veganism is very healthy thats simply not true. its likely better than the SAD diet but youve been mislead about the biomarkers thing. cholesterol is not the cause of hart disease, red meat doesnt cause diabates/cancer etc. (whatever they claim) and with the protein intake i can agree. The nutritional research is like so bad (which you should know if you knew how to read studies properly –> quality, bias, funding etc.) they shouldnt even allow it to be recommended. its all based on epedimiology and if you look into what they do they actually give individuals a questionaire about what they ate 4 weeks ago, they also use people with diabetes, obesity and smokers in the studies to make red meat look bad. Yes those people they eat more meat on average than a normal healthy american, but you cant say –> this guy has obesity, diabates and smokes –> they eat more red meat –> therefore red meat causes cancer, obesity and diabetes. YOU CANNOT prove CAUSATION with CORRELATION which you should know, its basic knowledge. like thats literally what a lot of these epidemiological studies did, which is disgusting. i advise you to not talk in certainties when talking about nutritional research because there is a lot of shitty research out there. if you cant spot the good from the bad please dont get involved in reading nutritional studies, because it will lead to bad choices –> veganism. Especially when you have a large following and you almost recommend veganism, you will lead a lot of people to ill health, you CANNOT get every vitamin/mineral out of plants. Humans evolved/thrived on meat since the dawn of time, you really think that in an ice age people were eating vegetables lmao. And dont come at me with "yeah but they didnt get old" because then you really are not that knowledgeable (insane amount of child death –> lowering the average lifespan by significant amounts)
If you are happy, we are happy for you. However Vince Gironda is crying in his grave. You should done a Dr. Baker podcast. Or Simnett Nutrition Channel. He's been vegan for a while, stays ripped and appears healthy.
I don’t think Alex has done it before but I think most of his community would agree we would really benefit from a video of him preparing a lot of these meals. It would help a lot getting a visual reference for a lot of these in order to implement a lot of them .
For the interviewer if you want some science on plantbased try watching some videos of the chanel "Plant chompers" he perfectly summarizes a bunch of research for you to double check for yourself. It's no surprise the mediterranean diet is mostly plantbased with lots of healthy fats, fiber and small amounts of animal protein such as fish. This is scientifically considered the most healthy diet for longevity.
Great video! going over the vegan diet I recently went to Plante based myself and I’ve never felt better all the things Alex is talking about. I have been experiencing myself, but you definitely have to get creative with this diet. I am learning as I go and with this video, I have a few more ideas.💪🏽
Alex, I've been watching your channel for what has to be over 5 years at least. I Love the transition you've made. You took the time to plan it out and show people it can be done healthfully. I would love to know if you budget food or have any type of budget/savings tips for eating that way while lifting? I eat a lot of PB2 for my protein, which can get pretty expensive..
Breakfast-oatmeal with berries, chia seeds, flax seeds, raisins and walnuts Lunch-salad (arugula) onion, mushrooms, garlic, quinoa, hemp seeds, beans Dinner-sweet or white potato, beans or lentils, rice or pasta, sauce (blended walnuts with soy milk, garden vegetables). TVP or Tofu or Tempeh with rice Supper-Same as dinner
Fruit throughout the day. Protein drink at some meals. Soups as well.
I've been largely all plant-based for the last few years. Been training for some time, but started training smarter, harder, and more consistently. And added 2 and a half inches to my arms in about a year and a half. Still gaining size everywhere. 💪🏽 I'm a Seventh-Day Adventist Christian and can attest that if you make appropriate changes to your diet and go the plant-based route. Your body and mind will thank you 🙏🏽
2:28 maybe in wrong, but the 1 gram per pound is *an statistic*, right? . So some individuals will do good even with lower protein intake. So that recommendation is made to make sure that most people will have enough protein, isn't it?
Good tip: cook red lentils minimal water, add tahini, a bit of salt, cumin, olive oil and lemon juice and you have lentil hummus. High protein topping. I’m not even vegan but it’s goatee
I’m trying to reduce my meat intake and as I get older I will transition to a more plant based diet with the exception of vacations, holidays, etc. I just incorporate a lot of veggies and healthy starches. I was vegan for 3 years and when I ate whole foods I was a great athlete and helped me with my boxing career.
Great video! Alex is a huge inspiration for me. He proves that you don’t need fancy machines or a very high protein diet to make amazing gains. We don’t have many elite natural lifters who are also on a plant based diet. Having Alex in natural lifting community is truly wonderful. I really admire his approach to both training and nutrition. 🙌
Ill never eat beans and grains again, disastrous to my gut. Ive never heard of anyone having meat allergies and it positively affects me. Meat- all kinds- some veggie and most fruit works awesome for me. I do not want elevated blood glucose or insulin and fine with using mostly fat for energy. Diet is definitely not one size fits all.
It's interesting – I research nutrition for ten years as well, I'm very interested in the subject. I went through all the phases and tried everything and came to the conclusion that the more I know, the less I'm certain of one correct answer. There are nuances to this. When you say one very particular pattern of eating is the best for everyone, it's a bit of a red flag for me. If I had to bet my life on prescribing the best nutrition to most of the people, it would probably contain meat, beans, legumes, grains, vegetables and fruits – all in moderation. Some people probably benefit from being on one end of the extreme and some from being on another end. I'm not sure we can apply that to everyone and with such certainty. Great talk though, enjoyed it!
let’s be real alphadestiny built most of his mass on omnivore diet until 2018 by then he was already an advanced lifter who hate 1g of protein per lbs for years. Of course maintaining muscle and building a little is not like building a lot of muscle.
Worst diet on Earth for human health. He’s horribly misguided
I've been waiting for this info!

Alex, look for mushroom steaks, you won’t miss them anymore
This was really cool to hear. Very inspiring as someone who both trains and thinks about the ethical and environmental impact of eating meat.

Didn't he go vegan some 6-7 years ago? I think I remember him talking about it and being hyped because I was also vegan at the time.

Great dialogue between you too. Cheers! <3
Why would someone avoid whey isolate ?
Seems harmless

Super inspiring. I’ve gained 35 pounds so far on a vegan diet in about a year. Alex had a huge influence on me. Good stuff!

Wow Alex big respect for eating plantbased and doing it well with TVP, tempeh, the whole nine yards.
This is Incredibly unhealthy 🤦🏼♂️
Faite
Great content !!

Ouch! I was in to this diet till I heard the reduction in his bench…
This guy knows his stuff. Interesting diet
Introduced pea protein – nice addition to the mix.
alex a full on soy boy now 🙂
isn't there a bunch of evidence showing that soy in men is bad..he's using it as his primary protein source

I eat a lot of PB2 for my protein, which can get pretty expensive..
Alex's example meal plan:
Breakfast-oatmeal with berries, chia seeds, flax seeds, raisins and walnuts
Lunch-salad (arugula) onion, mushrooms, garlic, quinoa, hemp seeds, beans
Dinner-sweet or white potato, beans or lentils, rice or pasta, sauce (blended walnuts with soy milk, garden vegetables). TVP or Tofu or Tempeh with rice
Supper-Same as dinner
Fruit throughout the day. Protein drink at some meals. Soups as well.
No salt and seafood. Does he supplement Iodine or eating seaweed?
Plants are toxic they shouldn't be eaten
Vegan here! I easily hit 250g per day on a fully plant based diet and have no issues progressing well in the gym!

Protein is overrated when talked about in outrageous amounts I.E 4-6+g per kg. CHO for the win.
Alex is saying he had the diet dialed in like never before on a vegan diet and yet he peaked 3 whole weeks before comp… something doesn’t add up.
Alex has proven here that he doesn't know what he's talking about when it comes to nutrition.

Where is his iodine coming from If he doesen't drink Milk, doesen't eat eggs, does not use salt and doesen't eat fish?
