In this video, you get the raw reaction and opinion on Jalen Hurts and Saquan Barkley squatting 500 lbs + from world record …

I used to see Saquon at PSU when he was there. I remember him walking around with ridiculously disproportionate quads and thought he was setting himself up for a hamstring tear. I was wrong, he tore an ACL instead.
Respectfully disagree. Yes, the amount of weight Hurts was squatting in the video is questionable, but to say that Squats does not carry over to the field is a bit much. Having a strong Posterior chain can protect your knees and take you the extra mile when trying to gain yards and inches. These dudes are not teddy bears, they need strength to survive.
I blame social media. They do this for social media approval. Without social media I don't think they would be doing these squat videos.
Ditto Christian McCaffrey whose personal trainers spent months uploading videos showing him doing plyometric work. In the end he had Achilles tendinitis from being overworked and couldn't play. But his trainers loved doing videos with him for credibility.
You are absolutely right. My doctor told me putting that much weight on your back compromises your knees and your spine. It’s best to lift from the ground up
One of my favorite quotes is by Thomas Sowell saying "There are no solutions. There are only tradeoffs." I appreciate you shining the spotlight on the tradeoffs here and discussing whether or not the particular tool being used (in this case squats) is going to be effective at achieving one's performance needs and goals. I believe tradeoffs are often overlooked by people, so it's great seeing you touch on that. You really brought it to my attention as well in one of our consultations! Great content as always, Brian!
What athletes including NFL players do in the gym is to supplement them on game day. They can't get hurt in the gym. Jalen Hurts is strong but the 600lbs Squat spotter helped. Saquon Barkley was explosive but they were box squats easier and he was bouncing off the bench. But helped his explosive leg power and leg strength those squats with 585lbs no belt no wraps no sleeves completely raw moved fast and effortlessly gives him that leg strength and explosion where he runs through the other players like a knife goes through butter just bulldozes them. Jalen Hurts being a quarterback squatting 600lbs even with help makes him a strong quarterback even helps him run fast and doesn't make him weak meaning he's also intense as he lifts a heavy weight for a quarterback which takes a lot of work and intensity especially for his frame the way he grinded it out.

Jalen hurts, I believe, family powerlifts . His dad and his brother
Absolutely correct. Gym bros need to listen too.
