I live in Parramatta and often travel to Epping and northwestern suburbs such as MQ uni, but the transport between them is poor. There is only super slow and winding 550 bus, or T1 train need change at Strathfield and wait for slow T9 . Both can take up to 1 hour! Frustrating! So I always think about an express transit between the two transport hubs so people can travel very easily between west and north.
Therefore, I think gov should open a frequent BRT system between Parramatta and Epping with few stops, straightened route and much faster speed to cut travel time from an hour to less than 30 mins, so lot of people’s travel will be much more convenient. Brisbane metro style BRT system is a good example, or just as easy as BLine bus, from Parramatta.
This construction is simple, cheap and fast, so this can be more feasible and considerable for the gov. I have made this compliment to bus company and Parramatta council but they didn’t give me a reply. Are you interested in making a video about this?
I think you did a great job explaining the complex layout of Strathfield station especially as you did it spontaneously. This station has changed so much over the years and not always for the better. I find the continuose electronic announcements really annoying especially when the announcements for each platform occasionally all play at the same time. I remember when so many long distance trains stopped here, some of which were: 1: The Central West Express ( daylight service) and The Western Mail Train (overnight service), 2: The Gold Coast Motorail Express ( overnight service to Murwillumbah). 3: The North Coast Mail train ( overnight service), 4: The Brisbane Limited Express ( daylight service), 5: The Intercapital Daylight Express to Melbourne 6: The Southern Aurora ( overnight Express sleeping service to Melbourne), 7: The Spirit of Progress ( overnight sit up service to Melbourne), 8: The Silver City Comet to Broken Hill. The services mentioned here operated daily which made Strathfield a thriving and exciting rail hub for many years especially for the young enthusiasts of the time.
I used to live in Strathfield and appreciated its importance to me because most trains would stop here, so I had a plethora of services to catch and return home or go to city to USYD. However, I have to say that the Strathfield station really isn’t that great despite being a major interchange second only to Redfern, with 8 platforms (Redfern has 12). There should’ve been more toilets and maybe more lifts.
The XPT and Xplorer trains only pick up booked passengers when going to Armidale, Moree, Grafton, Casino, Brisbane and Dubbo and only drop off passengers when returning to Central at Strathfield
NSW TrainLink regional XPT and Xplorer services to Grafton, Casino, Brisbane QLD, Moree, Armidale and Dubbo also stop at Strathfield using platform 3 and platform 6 if they have to as well as platform 1 when they return to Central
Very interesting video. As a suggestion, this would have been easier to follow if you described which direction you were facing early on, i.e. east, west, north or south. Makes it easier to work out which direction the trains are going for someone who's not familiar with Strathfield or Sydney generally. Thanks.
Very very interesting video, well done mate!Keep up the great work and sub to him (Transit Sydney) if you havent done so already bc he makes great trian content
i've always hated changing at strathfield. when i lived in the inner west i used to change there for newcastle trains. commonly the platform would change really suddenly with no announcement, and no update to info boards. i came so close to simply guessing and stepping blind onto trains there. got to wonder if the complex setup contributes to the terrible passenger experience there (and not very useful staff).

Well done for attempting to explain how Strathfield works, but you presentation would have been much clearer if you had used maps and diagrams.
